  1. Excellent. We’ve had chooks for just over two years and there is never a dull moment. It’s like bringing up a second family with all the ups and downs that go with it. You were lucky to get an egg en route. We waited about a month for our first (it was like the arrival of a child) and one of our chickens – a columbine – didn’t lay her first egg for six months.
    I hope to see regular updates.

    • They don’t live here, but I will try to pay the odd courtesy call on them. I must say they are comical little creatures and apparently get very tame and sociable with the slightest encouragement.

    • I always enjoy the Weald & Downland and seeing what they have done recently – have been going a couple of times a decade since it was just a barn and a house or two – but I haven’t been on a show day before so it felt quite different. I keep meaning to look at West Dean but somehow never quite make it – obviously another thing I should move up my To Do list!
