  1. Memories jogged No XXI. Everyone used to have a button jar, Mrs Potter. And a biscuit tin full of bobbins. And everyone used to have a tiny embroidered cushion hanging on the wall into which spare needles were stuck – and every pin that came out of every new shirt.

    • What do you mean, used to? I have a button tin, a button basket and a button jar (some buttons going back pre-war). And a box of cotton reels. And my tiny patchwork pin cushion which is now (gulp) 30 years old (though I don’t hang it on the wall).
