It wasn’t quite, but I didn’t get to the wheel until mid-evening and in present weather conditions it was gloomy indeed. I wanted some generously-sized cereal/soup/pasta bowls. These are made from 600g clay and are about as wide in the base as I can safely remove from the wheel head (any bigger and I would have to attach a batt, and make the pot on that).
They look roomy at the moment but they will get smaller. I’ve not measured shrinkage for this clay, but the other stoneware I use shrinks about 12 – 15% during the drying and firing processes. At they moment they seem to have the graceful profile of washing up bowls, but I won’t tip them into the recycling bucket just yet.
