Wet wool

… releases a characteristic smell when I am handwashing home made jumpers.  In these days of waterproofs and synthetics it is a lost fragrance.  Many years ago, after living abroad for some time, I returned in a cold wet May to England, and the bus was full of the smell of damp woollen overcoats. Ah, I thought, now I really know that I’m home.
